June 2011 Annual Rally

Our 22nd annual rally saw us move to a new venue - the
Nidderdale Show Ground in
Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. The showground is located by the River Nidd
and is just a few steps away from the local eateries and hostelries that were
well patronised over the weekend!

Our Friday road run saw us heading through Summer Bridge and
(punctures permitting) past the ‘Golf Balls’ of
RAF Menwith Hill.
We continued on to Otley and stopped shortly afterwards for lunch.

Our route
proceeded through Huby and on to Wetherby where we made a stop for provisions
before returning to Pateley Bridge via Boroughbridge, Bishop Monkton and
Markington passing by the impressive Brimham Rocks.

Friday evening was spent by barbecues on site or meandering up Pateley Bridge
Main Street partaking of the local fayre.

Saturdays run was to Skipton passing the
Embsay & Bolton Abbey
Steam Railway. It was market day in Skipton; this gave us the opportunity
to stock up on a few bargains before returning via Appletreewick to Pateley
Bridge.

Our newly acquired gazebo came into its own on Saturday evening providing plenty
of room to escape from the chill. Evening entertainment was the traditional
quiz and raffle.
Prizes were
awarded to those who had taken part in the road runs.

The evening continued long into the evening (morning?) thanks to
the DJ skills of Neill Foster.
Sunday saw the
hottest day of the year (31°C/88°F) but it was sadly time to leave.
Thanks to Ray
Glendinning our Event Co-ordinator for all his organisational skills in securing
a delightful new venue and planning some challenging runs.
We’re already
looking forward to 2012!
