The Seaside Shivver, Thursday 28th December 2006
A small but enjoyable annual event which we all look forward to is the
Seaside Shivver, organised by (sadist?) Steve Pepper. The event always
takes place between Christmas and New Year, and is always attended by a
bunch of Braveheart / Foolhardy Microcar-mounted Maniacs, usually
accompanied some other enthusiasts in everyday cars.
2005's event was characterised by snow drifts across Yorkshire which
prevented many, me included, from taking part. Actually, I did set off
to the event, but the snow and slush on the road eventually built up to
such an extent under the rear of my Isetta that the engine just would
not keep running and I was forced to turn and head back home!
For 2006's event the weather was kinder. Leaving home in heavy mist our
Isetta soon encountered thick fog, but we persevered through it as
traffic is only light at this time of year. We met up with other
microcars en-route, and numbered four cars by the time we met the main
peleton, with had started from the other side of Yorkshire. From here we
convoyed over the North Yorkshire Moors, the fog turning to mist turning
to a light haze which was burnt away by a watery Winter sun.

Arriving at the sea-side town of Bridlington, we parked the microcars
along the promenade which backs on to the cold and windy North Sea, and
hastened into the fish'n'chip cafe where tables had been reserved for
us. By this time, the array of microcars numbered one Isetta, three
Heinkel/Trojans, one KR200, an NSU Prinz, an Aixam and a Smart.

Much merriment later, we all dispersed towards home having had a fine
feast of fish'n'chips and a super day's micronauting. What more can you
ask?
Thanks, Steve, for the event. More again this year please.
